From the 1 Jan 2014 over 3 million children will be eligible for Medicare-funded dental care.
If your family receives Family Tax Benefit Part A, each of your children will be eligible for up to $1000 worth of Medicare-funded treatment over a two-year period.
Children between the ages of two and 17 will benefit.
Benefits cover a range of services including examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions.
Benefits are not available for orthodontic or cosmetic dental work and cannot be paid for any services provided in a hospital.
You can confirm your child's eligibility and balance amount by accessing your Medicare online account at my.gov.au or calling the Medicare general enquiries line on 132 011.
We want to support this initiative in encouraging good dental health for children.
USING THE SCHEME
At Croydon Family Dentistry we are committed to minimal intervention dentistry. This means that we will help aim to work with you so your children's teeth remain "filling free".
Advance research has shown that initial stages of dental decay or caries can often be halted and teeth can remain unfilled for life.
At Croydon Family Dentistry we will monitor and watch and decide with you on each child's best dental care – rather than just filling teeth.
(Despite the fact that Medicare will now pay for fillings, we do not believe that this is a good idea if it can be avoided).
